HOW-TO STEPS

    1

Begin with a center part. Section vertically from crown to hairline in the center back. Point cut with a shear, staying ont he bottom third of the hair strand. Direct the cutting angle down. This means the short side of the angle is on the top.

    2

The exterior cutting angle should be slightly longer toward the bottom with the top length falling over the occipital region.

Use vertical, 1-inch sections and work around the head toward the front hairline with a traveling guide with the same point cutting approach. At the front hairline, overdirect back to build a little more length and weight at the front. Repeat the same cutting techniques on the opposite side of the head from center back to front hairline.

Strengthen the design of the outline shape by slide cutting in the bottom two thirds of the strand. Alternate directions and depths.

Identify a length at the bottom of the chin on the light side of the haircut. Use a conceptual design as the starting point for creating a guide. Bring a diagonal fringe section down with medium tension and cut to the bottom of the chin. Cut the hair with a shear. Depending on the density and texture of the hair, cut flat or point cut staying very shallow to the ends. If the density is not great, you may take this as one large section.

Section diagonally across the front and cut on this guide until no more hair reaches.

    7

Create a curve upward at the front.

Ensure that the hair has dried off and return to the ends. Slide cut with varying angles to create a soft look. Remain focused on the concept of balance of construction and deconstruction.
