4. Tools You Need For A Big Chop

We saw a ton of transformations this year, but this chic bob that won #ONESHOT Cut Transformation 2022 by Ally Barone (@hairbyallybarone) took the cake. This textured, blunt bob is something clients will always ask for. Luckily, we were able to secure Ally’s go-to tool preference to achieve her viral haircuts.

Ally’s secret weapon used to create this texturized bob:

  •  ARC™ Scissors 10/10 Reversible Texturizer
    • Removes 60 percent of hair
    • Handcrafted in Japan with Ultra-premium ATS314 steel
    • Reversible design allows stylists to cut from any direction
    • Can be used on any texture from tight coils to pin-straight hair

5. Understanding What “Just A Trim” Really Means

The age-old question that we may never have the answer to. If you ask a stylist and a client what a trim is, you’ll get two different answers.

Overall—this viral post agreed that logistics aside, you should always give your client what they request! When in doubt, honor your client’s vision. It’s hard to not stick to your professional opinion, but if it means keeping a client coming back we say it’s well worth it.

6. How To Bring Viral Haircuts To Life For Your Clients

The butterfly cut was literally everywhere this year—red carpets, BTC Show stages, Instagram feeds and of course, all over our cutting tutorials. The classically layered cut has a few tweaks that make it stand apart from an average over directed haircut.

Luckily, we had the butterfly king himself Justin Toves-Vincilione (@ahappyjustin) teach his technique on BTC University that is available to watch NOW!

Insider Scoop: Justin’s go-to scissor to nail the butterfly cut is ARC™ Scissors Paragon II 7″. The 7 inch blade may seem daunting, but a longer blade actually creates super symmetrical lines. Typically, long blades would push layers through the scissor creating unwanted notches, but the Paragon II’s razor-sharp blades glide through any hair type. Watch below!

7. Combining Curtain Bangs With Edgy Haircuts

Curtain bangs have been a huge buzz over the past couple of years. In 2022, we saw a lot of elevated variations of the sweeping fringe combined with edgy haircuts—men’s included.

French cropped haircuts were a biggie this year and many stylists needed to navigate combining the fringe trend into their client’s new request. UK Barber Samuel Bentham (@samrascals_) nailed the variation and racked up huge views on IG that we’re still catching stylists replay.

8. Fringe, Fringe, Fringe & More Fringe

This year’s fringe takeover is not going anywhere. In fact, we’re predicting it will be heightened for 2023. Piecey fringe, carved-out curtain bangs and heavy, contoured face frames popped off on nearly everyone’s posts this year.

Stay ahead of the game this year, here’s your fringe refresh guide:
