How-To: Icy Blue Melt

  • Formula A (prelighten):

    Surface PURE BLONDE + 30-volume developer + Olaplex No.1

  • Formula A (root shadow):

    Color Intensity Indigo + Sapphire Blue + a dot of Black Pearl

  • Formula B:

    Color Intensity Cobalt + Mermaid Blue

  • Formula C:

    Color Intensity Clear + Mermaid Blue

Natalie Britt (@natnatkittycatt) is having a pretty good week. First, the stylist from Roots Beauty Studio in Fort Collins, Colo., had this amazing blue color melt featured on BTC’s Instagram page, where it racked up more than 11,000 likes! Then, we received a message from Natalie, who shared with us that because her work was featured on BTC, she got an amazing surprise at the salon—a promotion! And did we mention Natalie is only 20 years old?!

 

Lucky for us, Nat was more than willing to share that gorgeous color formula. Check it out below! Oh, and congrats, Natalie! Totally deserved. 

 

Total Price: $200 for bleach retouch and color application. (Natalie says she has been lightening her client for about a year using Olaplex to insure integrity. This particular look required four bleaching processes (eight months), and she charged $200 each time).

COLOR FORMULAS

  • Formula A (prelighten):

    Surface PURE BLONDE + 30-volume developer + Olaplex No.1

  • Formula A (root shadow):

    Color Intensity Indigo + Sapphire Blue + a dot of Black Pearl

  • Formula B:

    Color Intensity Cobalt + Mermaid Blue

  • Formula C:

    Color Intensity Clear + Mermaid Blue

HOW-TO STEPS

  • 1

     Apply Formula A to regrowth.

  • 2

    Shampoo using Surface Trinity Strengthening Shampoo and Surface Bassu Hydrating Masque, then apply Olaplex No.2, and process for 10 minutes.

  • 3

    Rinse, apply Surface Bassu Hydrating Oil and Surface Curls Smoothing Cream and blow-dry.

  • 4

    Apply Formula A to roots, blending into Formula B, which is applied to midlengths and pulled down to alternating lengths.

    Blend Formula B into Formula C.

    Process for 30 minutes, then rinse in cold water and lightly emulsify Formula C through the ends.

    Shampoo using Surface Bassu Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner.

  • 8

    Apply Surface Reflect Styling Gel to hair once it’s 50 percent dry, then style as desired. Finish with Surface Push Styling Powder, Surface Curls Finishing Spray and Surface Bassu Shine Spray.
