Learn this ONE-STEP process utilizing foils, balayage techniques, low-lighting and glossing without the fatigue of a four-step appointment. “The trifle,” explains BTC Team Member Sarah Cabral (@sarahzstylz) “Is my favorite multidimensional hair color technique to add three layers of color at the same time.” Reminiscent of a delicious layered dessert, Sarah’s trifle technique emulates the smooth layers and rich tones of a decadent treat.

Who Is The Ideal Client For This Color?

“I created this trifle technique because I wanted multidimensional color in just one step,” Sarah says. If you have clients with strict time, budget or maintenance concerns, this is a perfect opportunity to provide an artistic service beyond a partial highlight.

  • Anyone looking for a change without a huge maintenance schedule
  • Clients working towards an all-over transformation
  • Any client with a “natural-looking” request
  • Clients who prefer to be warm toned and can handle a lived-in look

What Does Maintenance & Pricing Look Like?

“The more natural you keep the root, the less maintenance this will be,” says Sarah. This technique is customizable to your client’s preference, so utilize that benefit toward their follow-ups.

  • Have a client without a budget? Consider more foil placements to build a base that can handle several toning formulas.
  • Need this color to last 6 months? Avoid over-lightening the hair so natural warm tones can peak through as the toner fades without a yellow-looking grow-out.

“Charge by your timing (hourly or per service) with the option to add an extra charge per bowl of lightener used in addition to your go-to balayage service,” Sarah advises.

Key Points To Customize The Look

  • If you choose to use a balayage technique, know the result will be less lifted and more warm
  • Utilize foils on any sections you’re wanting to achieve a high lift
  • Depth and dimension comes from lowlight placement
