100% gray coverage in 10 minutes? Learn how here!

1. Gray coverage cheat: Save time with simultaneous services

Ever check your client’s foils only to have them ask: “Do you think you can also cover some of my gray?” If you’re BTC Team Member Stevie Meech (@hairbystevie) the answer is YES. But instead of scrambling to accommodate a longer appointment (because who has the time?), try Stevie’s secret weapon.

“In this situation, I use Redken Color Gels Lacquers 10 Minute to get 100 percent gray coverage in just 10 minutes,” she explains. “I don’t have to cut into my lightening application and because it is a liquid permanent color, the consistency is perfect for getting full saturation.”

2. Color correction cheat: Blend lines of demarcation without compromising the hair

Banding and compromised hair are the two most important factors when navigating a color correction. That’s why Oluchi Opara’s (@oluchizelda) relies on the Color Gels Lacquers 10 Minute. Not only do they seamlessly blend harsh lines, but they also won’t over-process the hair.

“Textured hair is already very porous, so the chances of over-processing are already very high. I prefer to use a liquid color that’s formulated to stop processing after 10-15 minutes, like Color Gels Lacquers 10 Minute, so I don’t have to worry about over-depositing and compromising the hair further,” she explains.

3. Lowlighting cheat: Avoid unwanted splotches with foils

Ever transition a bright blonde to a lived-in, dimensional blonde only to get spotty, uneven results? Don’t worry, Stevie is here to help. She shared her must-know tips for avoiding unwanted splotches when adding lowlights:

  • Keep sections separate with a foil. This helps avoid color transfer when placing a section over another.
  • Always have clean hands. Stevie recommends keeping a towel nearby to wipe away any excess color.
  • Use the comb + massage method. Achieve maximum saturation by combing color through then massaging it into each section.
  • Secure the section in a foil before moving on. #1 rule to avoid splotchy toner: Keep you sections clean and organized.
