QUICKIE: Rick-Rack Texture

Achieve zigzagged texture with a classic rick-rack technique, a backstage staple that creates a base for many editorial or avant-garde looks. Check out a close-up video of the technique, found backstage at the L’ANZA Healing Haircare B.I.G. Event in Cancun, Mexico.

 

L’ANZA Artistic Design Team Member Michael Dahl starts with L’ANZA Design F/X, a lightweight, flexible working spray with thermal protection. Working in fine sections, he rick-racks the hair around a hairpin, twisting the ends of the hairpin closed when he finishes each section. After a row of these, he’ll tap with his flat iron.
