3 Tips For Achieving Waves (Without An Iron!)

How To Achieve Beachy Waves With Just A Blowdryer & Round Brush

Change up the way you create everyday tousled waves. This quick technique can save you from plugging in an extra tool and save your client’s damaged hair from additional heat.

In just three easy steps, OLAPLEX Ambassador and Founder of Samantha Cusick London, Samantha Cusick (@samantha.cusick) shares how to get long-lasting waves using minimal heat (on her fabulous model—her mom!).

1. This rough-drying hack creates a voluminous base.

Samantha uses OLAPLEX Volumizing Blow Dry Mist all over as a heat protectant before sectioning the hair in half at the center part. To create volume while drying, Samantha lifts the root upward while tousling the midlengths front to back and side to side.

Pro Tip: Samantha suggests rough-drying until the hair is 70 to 80 percent dry before styling. This prevents moisture from weighing the hair down while keeping it wet enough to manipulate and maintain its shape when curling.

2. Try Samantha’s beachy waves hack with a blowdryer:

  1. Start with a three-inch section of hair, spritz the Volumizing Blow Dry Mist at the roots once more for volume, then begin blow-drying using a round brush and concentrator.
  2. While blow-drying, focus on lifting the root to create volume at the base for long-lasting body.
  3. Once the section is dry, begin rotating the brush away from the face, twisting the section toward the back of the head and pull through the ends to create a loose ringlet.

3. You need this step for long-lasting hold.

After each twist is created, don’t touch it! Let the hair cool before separating the waves, this allows the hair’s bonds to settle into their new texture so the style can last all day. Once cooled, use your hands to tousle and separate the waves to give that fresh-off-the-beach texture.
