Give Fine-Haired Clients Full Bobs With This Texturizing Technique

Avoid flat waves by creating maximum texture while cutting. Carolynn uses her signature “shear-shattering” technique to keep fullness at the bottom but still achieve voluminous layers—perfect for clients with fine hair.

Pro Tip: Since shear shattering uses the tip of the scissor, having a sharp tool is KEY. So Carolynn uses her PHANTOM II from ARC™ Scissors, because the blade is consistently sharp from axis to tip.

Create Soft Waves With Light Tension + A Low Heat Setting

What’s the secret to creating a lived-in wave? Volume at the root and a slight bend on the ends. Here’s how Carolynn achieves the look with a flat iron:

  • Start by applying a heat protectant. Carolynn grabs Perfect Defense from Moroccanoil® because it works perfectly for every hair type and client.
  • With light tension, turn the flat iron half way once at the root and slide down the section to the top of the ends.
  • Then, open the iron completely (this allows the curl to pop up) and reclose to bend the ends out slightly.
  • Tousle with Dry Texture Spray from Moroccanoil® for noticeable texture.

Enhance Texture With A Strong Hold Product

To create maximum definition in her waves, Carolynn grabs the Texture Clay from Moroccanoil® and applies it to the bottom of curls, pinching them together. Then, she uses her fingers to separate the product, creating piece-y texture.

Achieve Full, Voluminous Texture With This Setting Trick

No one said waves can’t have volume and texture. So Carolynn uses a “puff and pull” technique when setting so they have both. Check it out below:

  • The Pull: While the curls are hot, pinch the bottom of the section (Carolynn suggests having a medium hold).
  • The Puff: Take your other hand and gently pull the top of the curl upward to create volume.
  • The Result: Allow the curl to cool in this puffed state to achieve the fullness of a roller set but with more modern texture.
  • The Product: Spray Voluminous Hairspray by Moroccanoil® to tousle and add shine.

Pro Tip: To achieve more volume, Carolynn uses a curling iron for this technique. But the setting technique allows the curls to have a more wavy result.

BONUS: Get A Silky, Smooth Style With This Product

Clients requesting a smoother style? Add shine and color definition with the Smoothing Cream from Moroccanoil®. Here’s how: Carolynn applies a small amount of  product to dry hair, allowing it to completely dry. Then, she smooths the hair with a flat iron, creating a style that has a silky finish with some added shine to make their haircolor pop.

Pro Tip: Rock the flat iron gently at the base to create slight volume at the root.
