Myth: The longer hair is, the thicker it appears.
Yes, we know stylists understand that this is definitely not true—so, what’s the best way to manage a successful consultation with these clients? How do you find and communicate the right cut for their hair type? Follow these steps below!

Step 1: Analyze Hair Condition & Face Shape
Clients facing hair loss and thinning are more likely to be sensitive about their hair condition, so consultation is key! Study their features, set goals and clearly communicate them. Here’s an example: Phillip’s client was insecure about her square-shape profile, so together they made a plan to shape face-framing pieces for a custom cut that complements and contours the face.

Step 2: Customize The Cut

  • Locate where you want to create the maximum amount of volume. Explain that long and thin hair carries all the weight at the base, emphasizing spots where the hair is finer, so it’s better to cut off any excess weight.

  • Create volume! Recommend a style that puts volume at the center infrastructure of the cut, and use a serrated point-cutting technique instead of cutting straight, blunt lines. This will push the weight up and create a sense of fullness.

  • Use customized techniques for cutting fine-haired clients. Watch them below!
