How To Fix Roots & Bands For All-Over Warm Blondes

One of the main challenges stylists will find this year is transitioning their lived-in color clients to all-over blonde. This year’s hair color trends are all about natural, warm-toned blondes without the rooted looks we’ve created for years!

Take these tips from Moroccanoil®‘s International Influencers to learn techniques that color specialists around the world are using to nail this season’s biggest color trends.

1. Transition From Lived-In To All-Over Blonde With This Formula

After completing your lightening service of choice (each client’s needs will be different) try this formula for a blended, warm blonde. UK-based color expert Mario Moura (@mm.hairlondon) shares below how he takes dark roots to a natural-looking blonde without ashy undertones.

Root formula:

  • Moroccanoil® Color Calypso Demi-Permanent Cream Color 7.0 (20g) + 9.13 (10g) + equal parts Moroccanoil® 5-volume Oxidative Cream Developer

Toning formula:

  • Color Calypso Demi-Permanent Gloss 10.03 (15g) + 10.13 (15g) + 1:2 Color Calypso Demi-Permanent Gloss Activator

2. Corrective Blonding: Formula To Use For Regrowth & Banding

Blonding specialist Suzi Angelina (@hair.by.suzi) demos a common problem—blonde clients coming in with regrowth AND warm banding. To correct, conceal and refresh your client’s blonde you’ll want to check out Suzi’s quick formula to create an even color that transitions to a soft grow-out.

“I wanted to freshen up the face frame and take her color A LOT warmer,” explains Suzi. “I melted the root to create a softer grow-out with brightness near the face.”

Try Suzi’s step-by-step formula:

1. Lift the root to eliminate banding and blend new growth with Moroccanoil® Blonde Voyage Powder Lightener + 20-volume Oxidative Cream Developer

2. From the ears forward, create babylights toward the hairline for a refreshed, blended face-framing section

3. Tone to a warm blonde using Color Calypso Demi-Permanent Gloss 9.3 + a splash of 8.3 + Color Calypso Demi-Permanent Gloss Activator

3. Choosing The Right Lightener For Longer Appointments

Using a lower-volume developer for long lightening appointments is a good rule of thumb, but to really protect your client’s hair you should think beyond developer and choose the right lightener instead.

Romanian stylist and BTC Team Member Oana Ciofu (@hair_by_oana) says, “I prefer to use the Clay Lightener in foils when I know the application is going to take a bit longer than usual.” She explains, “Moroccanoil® Blonde Voyage Clay Lightener has BondCare + ArganID™ in the powder that helps maintain the integrity of the hair during the lightening process.”
