It is the year of Dimitris Giannetos (@dimitrishair). The celebrity hairstylist and newly appointed Moroccanoil® Global Celebrity Ambassador has been everywhere this year. You are having such a busy year, are you maintaining any work-life balance? Any tips for doing so?: Yes, it’s been such a busy year, and I feel very humbled and honored to work with such amazing people all around the world! Traveling, though, can make it very exhausting, so to keep a balance, I like working out almost every day. It’s kind of a meditation for me; it’s the only place I can zone out and not think much about work and clients.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?: Stay humble and respect everyone around you—not only your client but the entire team who works for your client. Have no ego and listen to the people who have advice to give you!

What is your take on viral hairstyling trends/”aesthetics”?: I absolutely love all the shag haircuts! Whether it’s the wolf cuts or mullets, I feel they can transform everyone’s personality and give an edgy look!

You work with such an impressive roster of A-listers, how do you decide on looks?: With most of my clients, we work together for a really long time, so we’ve built a relationship of trust and they are always open to my suggestions and ideas. I’m a team player though, and I always like to have a meeting with the entire team so we all decide together what the look should be.

Can you recall a specific client or moment that you identify as a “breakthrough” in your career?: I can’t choose just one client! I’m so honored to work with every single one of them; they all are like my family.

If I had to choose a moment, it would be when I was asked to do Amal Clooney’s hair. It was a huge surprise for me because I mostly work with musicians, models and actors. So when I received Amal’s request I was thrilled. I’ve always admired her for the amazing work she does for the world. It was definitely a big moment in my career.

What’s one thing you’ll always find in your hair kit?: I don’t go anywhere without my Mason Pearson brush and my charger!

Products you can’t live without?: I couldn’t live without:

  • Moroccanoil® Dry Shampoo
  • L’Oréal Paris Le Color Gloss
  • L’Oréal Professionnel® Steampod Steam Hair Straightener

A time you were told “no” that motivated you even more?: Before I moved to the U.S., I was a hairstylist in Greece for 12 years and one photographer told me I could never make it in America because of my” look,” because I was overweight. That made me want to fight more to prove to him that yes, I can make it.

Most-worn piece of black clothing?: My Loewe t-shirt is my absolute go-to, it’s so comfy!

Dream clients? Past, present, future?: I would love any opportunity to work with Kate Moss, Kim K, and Michelle Obama.

Something you do that goes against what you learned in cosmetology school?: Honestly, I feel everything I do goes against cosmetology school, especially in America. I finished beauty school in Europe, so [that] has a conflict with American beauty rules!

I’m a more visual person, so every time I do hair, it’s like I’m doing a look for the first time. I like to keep the excitement alive!
