With beige undertones and the perfect balance of warmth, this sandy, peanut butter-toned blonde is sure to be a staple client request this year. For clients with naturally dark roots who want dimension, get London-based blonding expert Suzi Angelina’s (@hair.by.suzi) how-to steps for a sandy biscoff blonde below.

Who is the ideal candidate for a sandy blonde?

This technique is suited for clients that want to feel bright, but not too bright. “This color is blonde but with dimension, ideal for clients with naturally darker roots—or, clients wanting to feel bright but still want to see some natural dimension,” Suzi explains.

What are key tips to know when creating this color?

“Dimension isn’t the enemy,” Suzi says. “If your client has thick hair or dark hair, I would prefer to focus more time through the top of the hair and leave extra dimension underneath.” This will minimize damage by blonding less hair while adding brightness in the right areas.

Want to further reduce damage? Suzi’s go-to for blonding with hair health in mind is Moroccanoil® color. She loves it because it’s infused with the naturally-occuring amino acid, ProArginine, which improves the hair’s integrity, creating healthier-looking hair allowing for long-lasting color. What can clients expect from their appointment?

“In total, this complete transformation took 5 hours, but we did talk a LOT!” Suzi shares. To account for individual client situations, Suzi recommends booking out four to six hours for a sandy blonde.

What are your recommendations for clients to care for blondes at home?

“This color can last anywhere from four to eight months,” Suzi shares, “I recommend with any bleaching service to maintain haircuts every two to three months to keep the hair healthy.” Another must-do for blondes is committing to the correct care regimen at home—get Suzi’s recommendations below!

  • Moisture treatments: “Keeping the hair healthy is KEY, so use moisturizing treatments such as the Intense Hydrating Mask by Moroccanoil®,” Suzi shares. This will help minimize split ends and keep their blonde vibrant and glossy.
  • Hydrating styling products: “The Hydrating Styling Cream by Moroccanoil® is lovely when massaged into wet hair to give extra hydration,” Suzi explains.

COLOR FORMULAS

  • Formula A (lightener):

Moroccanoil® Blonde Voyage Powder Lightener + 20-volume Moroccanoil® Oxidative Cream Developer

  • Formula B (root melt):

    Moroccanoil® Color Calypso Demi-Permanent Cream Color 5N + 5-volume Oxidative Cream Developer

  • Formula C (mids to ends toner):

    Color Calypso Demi-Permanent Cream Color 30g 10G + 30g 10.BG + 5-volume Oxidative Cream Developer

FORMULA STEPS

1. Before: “My client hadn’t had her color done in 12 months, so we had lots of root to work with. The goal was to really brighten the hair up, but to still keep the natural color present.”

2. Start by creating a radial section from the crown to behind the ears.

3. Working from the back, use horizontal weaves and wide foils as you apply Formula A to each section.

4. Once you reach the front, use four face-frame foils on each side of the parting.

5. Continue to foil the side sections on a slight diagonal, pivoting to a horizontal as you work upwards. Remove the foils when each section has lifted to a yellow undertone.

6. Rinse to remove all lightener and apply Formula B to the roots.

7. Apply Formula C to the mids and ends. Process Formula B for 20 minutes and Formula C for 12 minutes.

8. Rinse and style as desired.
