Products Used

Paola Racon helps an educator work through a technique.

1. Use Products to Help with Slippage

Using a small elastic is great when you need incognito hold. But sometimes elastics can slip, which can change the tension (and style!) of your hairstyle. Sexy Hair International Platform Artist Paola Rascon (@paolitarascon) suggests using two elastics instead of just one and spraying them with hairspray, like the Sexy Hair Spray & Stay Intense Hold Hairspray. “Use the products for something you wouldn’t think of,” Paola explains. “It opens up your creativity and allows you to break the rules a little bit!”

Have pins that slip out of a style? Sexy Hair Ambassador Sydney Lopez (@sydneyannlopezhair) applies Sexy Hair Powder Play Volumizing & Texturizing Powder to her bobby pins. “It gives my bobby pins more grit and hold,” she explains.

2. Use Braiding Trick To Make Styling Easier

Multiple braids create the basis for many intricate-looking, Boho-style updos, but a harsh part line can ruin the overall look. Instead, use zigzag partings so the braids blend better together, Paola explained.

If you have a client that has naturally curly hair or hair that has many layers, BTC Team Member Antonio Estrada (@antestradahair) suggests opting for a more Bohemian style. “This way the hair doesn’t look frizzy and messy and you’re embracing the natural texture of the client’s hair.”

3. Create Workable Texture

If you have a client who has fine hair or you just need a little more texture, use a crimping iron to give hair a workable texture. But over-crimping the hair can have your clients leaving the chair looking like an ’80s music video extra. Paola suggests using a crimping iron on weaved sections too give texture that blends overall, but still offers the body and grip you need.
