Vanessa Hudgens attended the 2023 Met Gala rocking a spiky braided bun styled by celebrity hairstylist and SexyHair Ambassador Danielle Priano (@daniellepriano). The intricate style was inspired by the Chanel camellia flower to align with the night’s theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” “Our inspiration was a galactic ballerina as an homage to Karl tonight” shared Danielle. “We modeled the structure of Vanessa’s hair after the iconic Chanel camellia flower.” Floral-inspired hairstyles for spring? Groundbreaking…but really.
See below for how Danielle channeled a Chanel flower on Vanessa’s hair for the Met using SexyHair and Great Lengths products, plus tips to recreate the look.
Danielle prepped Vanessa’s hair by applying SexyHair Big Altitude Bodifying Blow Dry Mousse from the midshaft to the ends. She then used T3’s Featherweight StyleMax Hair Dryer to blow out her hair and lock in the product to create shine.

Danielle used Great Lengths hair extensions to add more length and body to easily shape the hair into the flower. She went with 22” length tape-ins and blended two shades (1B (Espresso) and 02 (Cocoa Rich)), for added dimension.
To apply, she first sectioned off very clean, 1/8” sections of her hair then, section by section, placed one tape-in extension adhesive side up and pulled 1/8″ of natural hair on top of the adhesive and pressed down.
3
She then took another tape-in and secured the hair by placing it on top of this joined unit. She continued applying tape-ins until had enough volume to begin constructing the camellia flower.
4
After applying the extensions, Danielle pulled Vanessa’s hair into a ponytail, secured, then split it into two sections. She braided each section and started wrapping each braid around each other and pinned to secure as she went.
5
After creating the bun, she pinned the ends of the hair to Vanessa’s head and fanned them out to create the spiky effect. Danielle then used T3’s SinglePass StyleMax Flat Iron to press the ends of her hair into a glassy leaf structure to resemble leaves of a flower.
6
She then gently pulled a little bit of hair from the braids to create the look of flower petals and applied SexyHair Powder Play Lite Texture Powder onto each “petal.”

Danielle sprayed SexyHair Spray & Play Harder Firm Volumizing Hairspray to finish off the look and ensure everything stayed in place.
