SexyHair® Provides Mental Health Resources For Stylists
Support & Self-Care: Mental Health Awareness For Stylists
If there’s something that hairstylists know more than anyone, it’s that outer beauty is only as good as inner beauty. Stylists, colorists, barbers and hair doctors of all kinds provide so much more to their clients than just a makeover: They’re therapists, personal confidants and friends.
In honor of Hairstylist Mental Health Awareness Day, SexyHair® is partnering with Mental Health America beginning May 27, 2023 for their new “Beauty Starts Within” campaign. The goal: To deliver education, support and some extra TLC to industry pros.
SexyHair® empowers stylists through resources & support.
Nearly half of Americans meet the criteria for a diagnosable mental health condition. To help nurture affected stylists, the “Beauty Starts Within” partnership strives to increase awareness surrounding mental health by offering:
- A screening test
- A coping toolkit guide
- Ways to recognize warning signs
- Stylist-specific wellness resources
- And more
These resources from Mental Health America will also be live on SexyHair®’s website and available via social media campaign.
Mental health affects everyone—even your hair idols.
Despite what social media leads us to believe, mental health isn’t all bubble baths and “treat yourself” downtime. Awareness looks different for every stylist, whether that’s through exercise, spending time outdoors or challenging your current mindset with new goals and ways of thinking.
“For me, mental wellness can be as simple as not endlessly scrolling on TikTok, saying “no” to extra activities [or] spending more energy on myself,” says SexyHair® Lead Artist Graham Nation (@grahamnation). “After exercising daily, I meditate for 15 minutes followed by visualization for 10 minutes, then I’ll write some goals in a journal after.”
For celebrity stylist Clayton Hawkins (@claytonhawkins), it’s camaraderie and movement. “I’m in therapy and a huge advocate for that! Find your tribe or a professional that you can talk to. Being active and getting physical exercise every day really clears my mind and helps me with my mental health,” he shares.
SexyHair® Ambassador Danielle Priano (@daniellepriano) focuses on inner-healing through positivity and gratefulness: “I do therapy and I also have a healer,” she says. “I maintain a healthy lifestyle and work out nearly every day. I also laugh a lot and make sure I wake up every morning being positive and grateful.”
The “Beauty Starts Within” resource hub is set to launch later this year, with expectations to continue to grow and develop through 2024 and beyond.
