1. Use a low developer to prevent swelling
You’ve heard it before, “low and slow for healthy blondes.” But why? Danilo explains: “Mixing a strong lightener like BLONDME® with a higher developer can cause the hair to lift too quickly. Putting the hair in a foil will not only cause the hair to process fast, but the chemical reaction can cause swelling—resulting in an uneven lift.”
2. Start your application in the back for more control
Picture this: You’re halfway through foiling the back and your front foils are ready to be rinsed. That’s why Danilo always starts his application in the back.
“It’s much easier to rinse the back first than it is the front,” he explains. “Typically the hair in the front and around the hairline is much finer than the back. So, leaving the front for last gives me more control of the lift and helps me keep everything even if the back is finished first.”
3. Leaving out the ends? Here’s how to avoid banding!
Leaving out super bright ends are KEY to keeping hair healthy and avoid a chemical cut. So what is Danilo’s advice for avoiding banding? A post-foil-pull blend.
“After processing, I remove the foil and use my fingers to blend the lightener slightly past the regrowth area,” he explains. “The lightener might be less potent but because it is BLONDME®, it has just enough strength to blend in the line of demarcation,” he adds.
