How-To: Long Layers With Just One Cut!

close formula

Long layers are always trending, and the cut is probably one of your most-requested looks. This technique lets you give your long-haired ladies a gorgeous, versatile style with only ONE major cut, followed by some texturizing. It’s really cool to watch, so let’s check it out!

We grabbed this how-to from Rafe Hardy, Artistic Creative Director for Sexy Hair, at the International Salon & Spa Expo in Long Beach, Calif. First, let’s break it down into why this technique works.

Rafe says there are five factors that influence any haircut:

1. Elevation
2. Lateral direction
3. Overdirection
4. Finger angle
5. Desired length

This cut you’re about to see is based on Sexy Hair’s Structure in Motion technique, which pairs the basic foundation of hairdressing with the ability to move and cut through angles. “This is how you work smarter and faster,” Rafe says.
