BTC Interviews Anthony Mascolo To Celebrate Bed Head’s 25th Anniversary

Cult favorite line Bed Head by TIGI just turned 25 (we know…we can’t believe it either!), and to celebrate, BTC sat down (virtually of course) with TIGI Co-founder and hairdressing icon Anthony Mascolo. Based in London, Anthony gave us the deets on a new pro exclusive line from TIGI and his assessment of the salon industry through COVID-19. Check it out!

 

Bed Head Turns 25

Established in 1996, Bed Head celebrated its 25th birthday with a celebration of all things ’90s. Lucky for us, the resurgence of ’90s trends is EVERYWHERE, so these products fit right into 2021. Anthony and co-host Tayla Parks unveiled Bed Head’s makeover and six new products in the range:

What has made TIGI unique is the creativity behind the brand. “We tried to make our own identity and we were able to do that by being a photographer and filmmaker,” Anthony said. “You’re able then to not use someone else’s idea, but to make your own.” With Anthony on photography and his wife Pat Mascolo on makeup, the duo would shoot their own creative campaigns—and the rest is history.

New Pro-Exclusive Line Launch

While Bed Head has stood the test of time, a new line under the Bed Head brand is coming this summer—and it’s for professionals only. Anthony spilled the secret during our interview.

 

“We’ve always been there for the hairdresser. By hairdressers, for hairdressers,” Anthony said. “We want to offer something that allows the hairdresser something exclusive to work with and give that difference to the clients that come in.”

 

With the U.K. still in lockdown until April 12, and salons across the U.S. continuing to struggle through the pandemic, an exclusive line that clients can only buy from their stylists is welcome.

 

“It’s for the hairdresser that they can have exclusively. We’re keeping that element of difference and trying to do something new. I think the hairdresser needs that to maintain their creativity,” Anthony said.

 

The pro-exclusive line is called Bed Head Professional Artistic Edit. We can’t divulge too much yet, but we CAN share it will start with six styling products that have a Bed Head vibe, but look a bit different from what we’re used to seeing from the brand. Think styling must-haves like a dry serum, protein spray and soft texture wax.

 

Keeping Stylists Inspired Through Multiple Lockdowns

Salons are shutting across the country, so TIGI is doing everything it can to support hairdressers, Anthony said. He expects between 5,000 and 10,000 salons in England will never reopen.

 

“Our industry is about contact and communication and being together,” he said. Using these free tools to stay connected is crucial as the pandemic continues, Anthony said. “Creativity comes when you’re feeling good and everyone is energized. Reminiscing about old work, it revives you. That’s what has kept us energized.”
