HOW-TO STEPS

  • 1

Balayage using Formula A, starting in the nape and using three partings—a center parting, a horizontal parting from ear to ear and any remaining hair. “I used horizontal partings to paint the hair in a V shape, making sure to blend at the root,” says Joie. “I also used ColorTrak Professional Hair Coloring Meche for added lift.” Note: this client has textured, curly hair, so Joie did a rough blow-dry before painting to ensure more precise placement.

Once the back section is complete, move to the front ear area. Apply Formula B, and process for 40 minutes.

  • 3

Shampoo and blow-dry the hair. Apply Formula C to the roots, melting it down into the ends. “This will create different tones of red and give a soft shadowing to the root,” says Joie. Process for 23 minutes.

  • 4

Shampoo, then apply Wella Colour Post Treatment for two minutes. Rinse, then gloss using Formula D. Process for 12 minutes, then rinse.

  • 5

Condition using Wella Professionals Brilliance Treatment For Colored Hair for 10 minutes under a steam dryer.

  • 6

Rinse and prep for blow-drying by trimming the ends and shaping the hair into soft layers.

  • 7

Blow-dry using Mizani Thermasmooth Sleek Guard Hair Smoothing Cream and Cynthia Lumzy Slay Me Enhancer Oil. Flat-iron the hair using amika The Shield Style Extending Spray, then curl with a GLAMPALM 1” Professional Hair Straightener. Finish with amika Un.Done Texture Spray.
