Get The First Look: PRAVANA’s New CRYSTALS Collection

Crystals are having a MAJOR moment…and the prismatic dimension serves as perfect inspiration for the next wave of VIVIDS haircolor. That’s why PRAVANA is launching a VIVIDS CRYSTALS line! BTC had a close-up look last month (check it out here) and we are finally able to spill all the details!

The Shades

Inspired by healing crystals, the six shades in VIVIDS CRYSTALS (check them out below) are uniquely pigmented to reflect consistent, saturated tonal value. The super cool part? You do NOT need to lift to a pure Level 10 to use these CRYSTALS shades! The new formula allows you to achieve a prismatic, multi-tonal look on hair as dark as a Level 7!

The Development

PRAVANA’s product development team tapped into all realms of beauty and fashion from around the world, and identified which color trends were on the rise (as with all VIVIDS collections). The team then took their insights and applied it to the hair world, and with the mounting crystal trend fueled by celebrities and influencers, it was only appropriate that the hair industry had an opportunity to experience its own crystal moment.

PRAVANA focused on recreating the prismatic, dimensional qualities found in actual crystals while also bringing forth on-trend, white space shades, resulting in this six-piece collection of multi-tonal colors that reflect a true tone on Levels 7 through 10 on the same head of hair.

The Deets

BTC spent a day with PRAVANA Collective member and Minneapolis colorist Kayla Boyer (@kayla_boyer) to get the first glimpse of the new hues. “I love the colors in this collection,” Kayla shared. What are her three favorite things about the new launch?

• “I like that there are different options, from deep-toned colors like Jade to brighter shades like Sunstone.”
• “I love how well they apply on different levels—you don’t need to be a platinum blonde.”
• “It’s amazing that PRAVANA designed these shades to be used right out of the tube. I see myself using them on clients who are already super-dimensional because the different tones will really shine.”

And her favorite shade? “The dark green, Jade—that’s a color that’s hard for people to mix on their own. I have a client that loves an olive-y, dark green. I nail it every time, but it would be so much easier to have it straight from the tube. I love getting creative and mixing from scratch, but sometimes in the salon, your time is limited. The fact that these shades are premixed makes it easy.”

The “Pastellic” Effect

When BTC spotted Melanie and Michael Lowenstein (aka @rossmichaelssalon, aka the 2017 #ONESHOT winners for Pastel Shot of the Year) at the International Salon & Spa Expo, we HAD to know…did they love CRYSTALS too?

Duh! “What’s beautiful about this collection, and its something we haven’t seen before, is that it has an iridescence built into it,” Michael said. “We can get that subtle ‘pastellic’ [pastel-metallic] effect.” Melody added, “It’s so prismatic! It makes my job a little easier.”

The Look

BTC Managing Editor Lauren was BLESSED to try Sunstone during her exclusive visit with PRAVANA. The verdict? IN LOVE! Lissette Cruz applied the shade directly out of the tube onto Lauren’s lightened ends, creating orangey-pink dimension. 

The new PRAVANA VIVIDS CRYSTALS collection will be available in March 2018 at SalonCentric, State|RDA Pro Mart, East Coast Salon Services and Four Star Beauty.
