The 3 Most Popular Men’s Haircuts (& Mustache) For Fall & Winter 2024

Get ready—there are two men’s haircut trends circulating the internet that are renditions of a classic mullet. The Mini Mullet and The Alpaca are haircut names YOUR clients are hearing about and will be bringing to your chair.

For the technical guidance and inspiration photos, we tapped WAHL® Professional Educator and Florida-based barber Trevor Moots (@tailorfade) for the insider scoop.

#1. The Mini Mullet

Business in the front, party…all over? The Mini Mullet is a client classic that men specifically are delving into this year. Instead of a dramatic shift from front to back, opt for a balanced and defined mullet on any hair texture. Trevor says, “Worn by stars like Harry Styles, Paul Mescal and Austin Butler, this trend is making waves by putting a modern twist on the traditional mullet’s comeback.”

Clients asking for a mullet-inspired cut? Here’s what Trevor recommends:

  • “To transition into a mullet, I recommend that my clients skip a haircut,” he says.
  • Although it sounds less than ideal, Trevor says it’s important to see how much length a client can retain by skipping an appointment to gauge on how long it could take to achieve a desired result.
  • “In the meantime, I like to taper only the sideburn area allowing the back to grow,” he adds.

Trevor’s recommended tools for creating a mullet:

  • To remove bulk: Wahl Senior Clipper
  • To fade: Wahl Magic Clip Clipper
  • Balding and or/finishing: Wahl Vanish Shaver
  • To style: Wahl Vanquish Blow Dryer

#2. The Alpaca

“Increasingly favored by young men, this cut features volume on top and a relaxed, tousled look, all while still appearing effortlessly styled,” says Trevor.

Trevor’s advice on WHO this style works best for:

  • I love doing this “Alpaca” style on someone with curly or textured hair to really embrace a natural flow of texture as opposed to fighting it or laying it flat.
  • This style also works extremely well on anyone that struggles with a receding hairline because it allows you to maximize the weight in the front, making the hair look strong and bold.
  • A lot of high school-age clients are asking for this, I believe it’s because younger kids find comfort in the “wake up-and-go” look. It’s one of those styles that doesn’t require too much effort to achieve.

Trevor’s recommended tools for creating an Alpaca style:

  • For debulking hair: Wahl Legend Clipper
  • To blend: Wahl Vapor Clipper
  • For line ups: Wahl Gold Detailer Li Trimmer
  • For shaving, finishing and balding: Wahl Vanish Shaver
  • To style: Wahl Vanquish Blow Dryer

Bonus Trend: The Handlebar (Mustache)

Facial hair is always a hot topic when the weather turns cold. Trevor says the vintage classic is actually a dual-purpose look, creating an opportunity for men who struggle with spareness through their beard to wear facial hair in a trendy and practical way.

“The handlebar mustache pairs well with a lot of my favorite looks like a classic pompadour, mullet, a brush back and many more,” he says. “I’ve seen many guys go clean shaven out of frustration with the density of the entire beard. The mustache area is typically the most dense part of all facial hair, so use that to your advantage. With the mustache being on trend, this is your opportunity to rock what you have and make it your own.”
