Tip #1. Add Gold To Blonde Toning Formulas—Here’s Why

Want brighter blondes? We already know the answer. To achieve this, @taylordidmyhair says to add gold to your toning formula, like Joico LumiShine Demi-Permanent Liquid Color 10NG. Adding gold will reflect light for more shine and keep color from pulling too ashy.

Blonde formulas need gold toners—here’s why!

Tip #2. Cheat Fuller Hair For Updos

@Hairbycaseyveda‘s fool-proof way to add volume and fullness to an upstyle? Sneak in some extra padding. Here’s how:

1. Prep with Schwarzkopf Professional OSiS+ Powder Cloud Sprayable Powder Mist and tease. Bonus: grab Bed Head by TIGI Little Tease Hair Crimper and slightly texturize just the underneath section.

2. Next, spritz Schwarzkopf Professional Volume Up Spray before curling, to bring in some extra body. Lightly brush out the curls for a subtle, soft wave.

3. Style as desired and use THIS hack for a fuller bun: braid some leftover extensions and put it in a hair net. Wrap it around the base of the ponytail, then slip in a few bobby pins to secure padding underneath your client’s hair. When you wrap up their hair around the padding it will create the illusion of a fuller bun.

The results are flawless—check it out!

Tip #3. Save Time—Darken Roots & Lighten Ends Simultaneously

When you have a client who wants to blend out old foil lines and make their ends pop, try this technique from blonding expert Carly Zanoni (@the.blonde.chronicles).

1. Carly starts by applying a root melt to damp hair and combs every few sections for a natural blend.

2. Then, she applies wet balayage working in large sections, saturating so she can’t see the hair underneath the lightener.

Pro Tip: The key to avoiding a warm band is to not let the lightener touch the root melt.

3. Lastly, she allows everything to process for 15 to 30 minutes. By saving some time, she can get more clients in and out quicker. Genius!

PSA—If you want more control and a better blend, you need to paint with balayage boards!

Tip #4. This Mohawk Foil Placement Cheat Eliminates A Root Melt

To create that natural, seamless balayage blend clients want (no root melt required!), @styledby_debbe uses a zigzag sectioning technique when foiling the Mohawk section. Follow these keys:

  • Switch up the density of your stitching for more dimension.
  • The smaller the triangle = more brightness.

Debbe says, “It’s honestly an oldie that I still use to this day. From my brunette babes to my blondies, this technique can be translated to all looks.” Keep scrolling to see her results!

Tip #5. Round Brush Cheat For Supermodel Volume

When your client comes in for their fall transformation (especially face-framing layers!), bring the look all together by giving them a max-volume blowout. To achieve this, try @sarabotsfordhair‘s fave technique:

1. Fist, prep for the blowout with Virtue® 6-In-1 Styler.

2. Blow-dry each section with heat and an Olivia Garden round brush. Roll the hair all the way up to the base.

3. Before you unwind it, turn your blowdryer to cool and blast the root for 2 to 3 seconds. This sets the lift and shape in place and adds mega volume.
