Tracee Ellis Ross Joins Ulta Beauty As Diversity Advisor

Ulta Beauty Focuses On Diversity & Inclusion For 2021

“Black-ish” star and beauty founder Tracee Ellis Ross has joined Ulta Beauty as their new Diversity and Inclusion Advisor. The partnership comes after the beauty retailer announced a plan to double the number of Black-owned beauty brands available in stores by the end of 2021. Ross founded PATTERN Beauty, a texture-focused haircare line, exclusively with Ulta in 2019

 

As part of her new role, Ross will provide counsel and insight as well as support the development of current and future minority-owned beauty brands. She will also join the company’s quarterly diversity and inclusion summits.

 

“I look forward to formalizing an already existing dialogue and partnership around diversity and inclusion with Mary Dillon and the Ulta Beauty team,” Ross said in a statement. “This work requires commitment and accountability from Ulta Beauty to ensure measurable goals are achieved. I am hopeful and optimistic our work together will create foundational change.”

 

As part of their Inclusion and Diversity Commitments, Ulta has pledged over $25 million to promote diversity and inclusion in their products and services, including $2 million on inclusivity and unconscious bias training for store and salon workers.

 

“As the country’s beauty retail leader, we believe we have the power to shape how the world sees beauty and as such, we have a responsibility to inspire positive change and drive greater diversity, inclusivity and equity,” Ulta Beauty CEO Mary Dillion said in a statement. “We look forward to sharing more as we continue on this journey with steadfast commitment from our teams and our newly established adviser Tracee Ellis Ross, who brings passion, experience and perspective to this important work.”
