RUSK Announces Matt Swinney As New Global Creative Director + Brand Relaunch
Matt Swinney Joins RUSK As Global Creative Director
Beauty Quest Group®-owned heritage hair brand RUSK® announces the kickoff of a new brand direction, spearheaded by their new Global Creative Director Matt Swinney and backed by existing Artistic Director Laura Gibson. The new direction—the RUSK Revolution—will have a large professional focus built on innovation, education, and business building.
Leading the charge of RUSK’s new look is Matt Swinney, an industry pioneer and owner of Evolution Salon, whose expertise includes mastery across cuts, style and color. A two-time Behindthechair.com #ONESHOT Hair Awards winner and four-time North American Hairstyling Award winner, Matt is highly respected in the professional beauty industry for his creative vision, technical expertise and business acumen.
A renowned educator, Matt has traveled the globe conceptualizing and bringing new ideas to shows, shoots, and education platforms to push the industry forward. He now brings his expertise to RUSK to lead the creative direction of the brand and start the RUSK Revolution.
“When the opportunity to join RUSK came, a brand that influenced me as a young stylist and inspired the industry, I was elated. RUSK has a long history of being cutting edge, disruptive and street chic. I look forward to reminding people how and why they know the name RUSK,” Matt said.
The evolved brand direction will kick off with edgy new campaign imagery that features artistic direction and exclusive looks created by Matt and Laura. These new looks and imagery capture the unique essence of where the brand is headed. With the philosophy of “Learn the Rules like a Pro, Break Them like an Artist,” the brand continues to support the creative community to ensure that with a RUSK education, they are equipped to be both masterful and disruptive with their looks.

“The new revolution for the brand has been a long time coming, and we are excited to give RUSK the refresh it deserves. With his broadscale expertise and dedication to educating on the craft he’s so skillfully mastered, we are proud to introduce Matt as our newest partner to join our team and push this revolution ahead. We look forward to revealing what we’ve been working on,” said Mary Burns, Chief Marketing Officer of Beauty Quest Group.
Also to come in 2021 is a website relaunch and in 2022, new product launches, both of which will capture the evolving spirit of the brand. In the back half of 2022, RUSK will introduce an entirely new care and styling line featuring chic-street packaging and new innovative formulas to join their existing color portfolio. While this shift will certainly make an impact in salon and on-shelves, the purpose of the RUSK Revolution transcends perception. With a dedicated mission to supporting the professional community, RUSK will continue educating artists with a holistic approach. In addition to being guided through honing their technical skill sets, RUSK is also working to develop programs for 2022 to help professionals enhance their business and personal skills, with a focus on financial growth and success.
