David Bowie’s campy sex appeal—both androgynous and flamboyant—is an iconic representation of the hyper-glamorous camp aesthetic. That’s what makes Ziggy Stardust a rich source of fashion inspiration for the 2019 Met Gala’s “Camp: Notes on Fashion” theme. Kristen Stewart’s Chanel-inspired haircolor by Danny Moon (@majormoonn) and her piecey, feathered out pixie by celebrity stylist Adir Abergel (@hairbyadir) is the Bowie-inspired fashion statement the world needs. Style Notes: “Camp is all about elevating a look and making it flamboyant,” said Adir. “I wanted the look to communicate that camp, in a way, is suspending the reality. The inspiration was ’70s Bowie and the obscurity of gender, playing into both masculine and feminine extremism. We also wanted to create a look that incorporated classic Chanel red.” The look merges the ’90s heartthrob floppy hairstyle with a nod to the ’70s glam of David Bowie. From mids to ends, the hair was dyed into a classic Chanel red hue inspired by the nail color ‘Arancio Vibrante.’”
