close formula

We saw hundreds of innovative products fly through 2022. ICYMI: We’re wrapping up the ones that defined this year. You’ll remember some specific launches that went viral and others that you couldn’t keep stocked in the salon. Check out the hero products and collections that got stylists through this year along with trendy faves that you may have forgotten are tucked away in your cabinet!

1. January: The First 5 Product Launches Of 2022

The year started strong with cult-favorite brands like SexyHair®, Biolage and amika focusing on new renditions of existing product ranges formulated for hair health and color care.

Schwarzkopf® Professional took their stylist-faves to the next level by releasing liter sizes of the FIBRE CLINIX range for fool-proof backstock in 2022. Remember when these big guys took over back bars everywhere earlier this year?

2. February 2022: Instant Results Have Entered The Chat

No matter what February looks like where you live—we know it’s brittle hair season! Go-to brands like IGK Hair and Aveda launched shampoo and conditioner sets and overnight serums to help with the seasonal change-up while Davines formulated an instant smoothing mask and perfector for all hair types.

The LOVE Smoothing Family from Davines (launched appropriately in February 💘) released two additions to the range that provide silky results upon application. Safe to say nearly a year later, we’re still swooning.

3. March 2022: Cult Favorite Haircare Meets Hair Color

Spring cleaning was in full effect to make room for EIGHT huge launches this March including the jaw-dropping release of the Moroccanoil® Hair Color Line

The brand’s loyal pro clientele were elated (as were we) when Morocannoil dropped their first hair color line featuring a full range of permanent and demi-permanent shades along with lightener and specialty formulated developers. We know a ton of you will continue using the line in 2023, for those who haven’t tried it yet—here’s a quick copper formula using Color Calypso Demi-Permanent Color Gloss

4. April 2022: Spring Styling Is In Full Swing

April means blonde is coming back, summer is on the mind and beachy styles are out of hibernation. Thankfully Aquage® launched their Spray Wax styling spray that was a huge game-changer this year.

Celebrity Stylist Laura Polko (@laurapolko) used Spray Wax all year on clients like Gigi and Bella Hadid, Dixie D’Amelio, Emma Chamberlain and more. (We have her styling secrets here!) The “just sticky enough” fine mist spray is a workable, texture-building product that creates the right amount of hold on both sleek and beachy styles.

5. May 2022: The Category Is, Hydration & Holographic Hair Color

With summertime on everyone’s mind, we received TEN new launches geared towards protecting, hydrating, de-frizzing and adding holographic shifts to hair for fun in the sun.

In the midst of this it-girl product drop month was Olivia Garden® releasing a Barber Brush Collection that was an instant hit. Designed with barbers in mind, the OG team created three round brushes and one vented paddle brush that became go-to’s all of 2022.

6. June 2022: Your Fave Brands Made A BIG Splash For Summer

Some haircare must-haves got a summer makeover like a new shade in the Moroccanoil® Color Depositing Masks line and a classic revamp to Redken’s JUMBO Deep Clean Dry Shampoo

Other brands like amika dropped an entire line dedicated to requenching brittle summer hair. The new Hydro Rush Collection included everything stylists needed to recommend to their clients for healthy hair all summer long. We know you saw the beautiful blue packaging all over your IG feed—but the product inside each bottle were nothing short of a tall glass of water.

7. July: Trending Color & Styling Products That Went Viral

Clients and stylists are always looking for quick fixes in the summer months and the pro beauty space sure delivered. Color launches like RUSK® Deepshine XPress Gloss and Matrix SoColor Sync Pre-Bonded Toners and Lightener kept appointment times down while creating the bright blondes summer clients ask for.

As for styling, the R+Co DART Pomade Stick took TiKTok and our clients by storm when the brand created a one-step way to achieve this year’s trending slick back look.

8. August: New Innovations In Stylist Tools, Accessories & Apparel

This month took a short break from viral launches and replaced brand new tools in stylists’ hands! Trendy accessories like luxury claw clips from Line One Hair and a brand new cult-favorite apron from Victory Barber and Brand completely took over stylists’ salon uniform.

The most talked about however, was the curly hair exclusive from ARC™ Scissors. The brand launched their first curl specific scissor, The Curve engineered exclusively to cut curls and coils. Cutting experts like Briana Cisneros (@brianacisneros), Chris Jones (@chrisjones_hair) and Nubia Rëzo (@nubiarezo) were all spotted adding the new must-have to their arsenal this month.

9. September: Prepping For Our Industry’s Busy Season

While most people sulk about summer coming to an end, we know stylists are psyched to get back to full books. You know who else revs up their game late summer? Your fave brand’s product launches! In September we saw innovative spins on cult classics like amika’s Perk Up Plus dry shampoo and Matrix‘s new Extra Dry & Extra Dry Neutral formula of their Vavoom Triple Freeze Spray

However, a completely new star in the spotlight was Schwarzkopf® Professional’s BLONDME Blonde Wonders Dry Shampoo Foam. This unique formula was the answer to avoiding the chalky finish dry shampoos can leave on fresh blonde color. Our only critique? We wish we had this launch sooner!

11. November: Time To Setup The Extra Retail Shelves

Undeniably one of the most exciting times of the year is when brands release their holiday kit lineups! This year we saw a HUGE variety from jumbo hair tool and product sets to everyday favorite bundles and everything in between.

IGK Hair decided to go with their most-loved products to make it easy for stylists and clients to stock up on what they reach for every day. Useful and easy on the eyes, we definitely saw stylists stock up on these bundles for their clients to take home before the holidays.

12. December: The Final Product Launches Of 2022!

With twelve months of continuous launches, there’s not much we didn’t cover! That was until Joico released their NEWEST range of trending hair color shades in the LumiShine® LUMI10™ line.

Stylists spent all year creating the copper and expensive brunette hair trends clients asked for and Joico took note. Releasing a full range of copper and cool-brunette shades was a breath of fresh air for stylists who need to keep their client’s seasonal color fresh without the long appointment times.
