7 Tips For Cutting A Textured Bob On Fine & Thinning Hair
Cutting fine-haired and thinning clients? If you’re not working to maintain the integrity of their hair and building volume, you’re only causing more damage. With 40 million women being affected by fine strands and hair loss, it’s time to master these texture-specific cutting techniques (trust me, your clients will thank you for it!). That’s why ColorProof Artistic Director Phillip Wilson (@phillipwilsoncp) went live on Facebook—at our new “The BTC House” in West Hollywood, Calif.—to break down a full how-to for cutting a textured bob! Snag the tips and watch the video below!
Get The Tips & Use The Timestamps To Watch Them In Action
1. Always use a cutting lotion when cutting fine and thinning clients for ultimate control. Phillip swears by ColorProof PureRelease Instant Detangle which doubles as a leave-in conditioner. (0:59)
2. Create a beveled edge by using a comb to bend the hair under before cutting the perimeter. This will help bevel the cut! (2:14)
3. For a textured bob, Phillip recommends using a 7-inch shear to help cut the wider section and create a stronger blunt line. (5:26)
4. Point-cutting the interior layers will help the hair sit together stronger. Elevate the interior at 90 degrees and point-cut on a diagonal, not touching the perimeter length. (14:46)
5. Always follow the natural parting—but why? This is how your clients will style their hair on their own, so create a haircut that complements what they already have. (19:32)
6. Now, check out Phillip’s innovative two-comb technique at 27:12 (below!) for a new approach to creating graduation.
7. End every cut with the perfect blowout—this requires building a strong foundation. Phillip recommends applying ColorProof BioRepair-8® Thickening Blow Dry Spray to control frizz and create soft, touchable volume. (29:01)
