“Absolutely stunning.” “Beautiful.” “Amazing.” “Wow.” Hundreds of similar comments came flooding in after we posted this magical teal creation on our Instagram page a few days ago.

Inspired by the Gouache painting technique (similar to watercolor, but more opaque-looking) and the popular mermaid trend, Franziska Rabensteiner (@fritzi_fresh) of Zoe Hairlounge in Nürnberg, Germany created this gorgeous color, then pulled it back into a beautiful updo to show off the depth and dimension. So. Pretty. And luckily, she’s given us a detailed how-to so you can recreate it in your salon! Here’s how she did it.

HOW-TO STEPS

  • 1

Apply Formula A to the roots, about 1 inch down.

  • 2

Create four zigzag sections in the back of the head, starting in the nape and moving diagonal toward the lower part of the ear. Then continuing in this manner, section in triangles until you reach the top of the head. Divide the front into triangle sections in the same manner, minding the natural part.

  • 3

Process for 20 minutes, then rinse, making sure not to smudge the colors.

  • 4

Shampoo using La Biosthetique Interactive Shampoo, then use La Biosthetique Seal Conditioner. Blow-dry the hair.

  • 5

Find the natural part, and balayage alternating slices using Formula A and Formula E.
Note: Franziska added La Biosthetique Thickening Cream in a ratio of 10:2 to Formula A for this step.

  • 6

Work creatively depending on the length of the hair and the cut, and apply the two different colors depending on how much lightness you want to keep or how much depth you want to create in your color.

  • 7

Process for another 20 minutes, then rinse. Shampoo using La Biosthetique Cool Blond Shampoo, then condition using La Biosthetique Crystal Conditioner.
