Luxury hair color is the hottest trend of the season. Recently verified by Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney, prepare for requests for rich teddy brondes with celebrity colorist and Schwarzkopf Professional® U.S. Trend Ambassador Jacob Schwartz (@jacobschwartzhair).

Below, find Jacob’s tips for enhancing your client’s natural base, formulation secrets for luxe suede-inspired shades and tips for lifting the perfect golden base.

How do you achieve a luxury bronde finish?

For Jacob, this shade involves a balance of warm and cool: “It’s a lot of ash and neutral. So using a lot of Schwarzkopf Professional IGORA Vibrance® 0-1’s, 0-21. It’s more of the effect: If you look at a suede bag or a suede shoe, it just has that texture and dimension in the fabric. It’s very quiet, luxe, rich and shiny.” Jacob explains. “My favorite thing to do is enhancing each client’s natural color and really playing off of what they have in their hair.”

What makes or breaks expensive-looking color?

Hair health is always Jacob’s top priority and he achieves that by using a low volume of developer: “The hair has to look healthy. I rarely ever use a 30-volume or 40-volume. I usually stick to 10-volume or under,” he explains.

Additionally, it’s key to keep warmth in the hair: “I never want to lift to get out of control. I don’t like the highlights to be screaming, I like them to be really natural. I rarely ever lift the highlights super light like Level 9. I like to keep it really golden. I just think it looks glossier when it’s styled,” Jacob adds.

His final secret to hair health? The right products: “I love Schwarzkopf Professional Vario Super Blonde Plus, it’s my favorite lightener at the moment. It doesn’t eat at the hair and I’ve used other bleach products before and this one is so gentle on the hair.”
