Behind The Hair: Power Alien Army at The Blonds FW18

The Blonds, helmed by Philippe and David Blond, are the opposite of subtle—which is why we LOVE the backstage action at their shows. And the hair, created by Oribe Director of Training and Content Kien Hoang, did not take a back seat to the fashion. Check out everything we saw behind the scenes at The Blonds FW18!

Angels versus demons, light versus dark—the show took inspiration from the eternal conflict of good and evil as a driving force in art, literature and film. Drawing from Renaissance-era frescos all the way to 1990s comics, the fabrications include spikes, studs, lace, pearls and crystals. Renowned art collector Daphne Guinness served as The Blonds’ avant-garde muse, and the pack of models were her “power alien army,” Kien said.

The hair—an outer-worldly version of French twists—required the use of handmade hair cones and lots of hair donuts to sculpt horns on models’ heads. Kien used tons of Oribe Swept Up Volume Powder Spray and Oribe Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray as he worked to mold the twists, finishing with heavy doses of Oribe Superfine Strong Hair Spray through a net to lock the style. Watch the creation below!

For girls wearing hats, Kien’s team created a series of braids that twisted and turned around the head, topped off with a beret. Check out how it was done.
