Transformation: Pink & Purple Dreams

“Samantha is a regular guest of mine. I use her for photo shoots and a lot of different looks, and maintaining the integrity of her hair is always a priority for our services together,” Sarah shared. “She’s always shooting me messages on Instagram of new things she would be down to try.” So Sarah got to work (with cut and style by @leahbabwe)!
Her best advice? “Plan your work, and work your plan!” she said. “Samantha has been wanting to try going platinum for a while, so we decided it was time. We found a day that worked for both of us and knew it was going to be an all-day process.”

Before. Samantha had previously lightened ends. “I knew I needed to panel from from about ¼ inch off the scalp to where her previous blonde began, leaving out the ends so as not to over-process the hair,” Sarah said.
1. Section the hair into quadrants and work from bottom to top, applying Formula A in foils. “I work around the face first and work in fine sections,” Sarah said. Increase the developer from 5-volume as you work—Sarah moved up to 20-volume. “I don’t use higher than 20-volume 90 percent of the time,” Sarah said. “It will give you a cleaner, more even lift, which is essential with blondes!”
2. Continue to the back, working the same as the front. After about an hour, Sarah checked the front first and removed the foils from around the face.
3. Once all foils are finished processing, remove them and apply Formula B to the roots.
4. Next, apply Formula C to the ends to clean out the initial blonde ends and achieve the palest results possible. Process at room temperature for 30 to 40 minutes.
5. Shampoo with Aveda Damage Remedy shampoo and pretreat the hair with Aveda Botanical Therapy treatment after shampooing thoroughly.
6. Prime the hair with Formula D to neutralize any yellow.
7. Apply Formula E to the base and Formula F to the ends. Process for 30 minutes. Here’s a tip from Sarah on getting that sheer pastel tone: “I use Extra Lifting Crème as my carrier for my tone,” she shared. “It will give the most sheer reflection of tone.”
