2 Alternative Ways to Finger Wave

close formula

Haven’t mastered classic finger waves yet? Try your hand at these two alternative ways to wave, which will give you finger wave vibes, without the time and stress!

The French Way
Use a Marcel iron and a comb to create ridges. Hold the hair with a comb, insert the iron, push upward to the desired ridge, click to get steam (but don’t pull), release and continue.

Bumble and bumble’s Global Artistic Director Laurent Philippon (@laurentphilippon) adds Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil for a mirror shine finish when using this technique. Watch below.

Cheat Waves on Medium or Long Hair
Want quick vintage waves on long, dry hair? Try this technique from Paul Mitchell International Trainer Mary Cuomo (@cuomocromeans):

  • Using the 1-inch Paul Mitchell Neuro Unclipped 3-in-1 styling rod, curl the hair in small sections, with the barrel pointing down. Curl every section in the same direction, and clip to set.
  • Once cooled, release curls and backcomb gently underneath each wave.
  • Clip to set waves into place.
  • Finish by releasing the clips and refining the waves with the end of a pintail comb.
