1. 5 Things Your Insta Bio Must Include

Let’s start with the basics. Your bio is so important. It’s how people find your business, learn where you’re located and book appointments or click through to your website. Bios should include these must-haves:

  • Name
  • Location
  • Category/Specialty (For example: balayage, updos, etc.)
  • Call To Action
  • Contact Info

2. How To Create A Space For Content, Inexpensively!

The easiest way to build content capture into your daily routine? Having the space and tools you need ready to go—but you don’t need to have an expensive studio to create this space! #ONESHOT Winner @chrisjones_hair only uses these three things to capture his client pics:

  • Outdoor Lighting
  • A Pop-Up Backdrop
  • iPhone

3. Instagram Photography 101

Are you struggling to take hair photos without excessive warmth? Totally frustrating, especially when trying to showcase cool-toned blondes and balayage! Here’s a tip: Indirect, natural light is KEY. If you’re outdoors, find a shady spot. If you’re inside the salon, find a spot by the window.

4. Capturing Content—How To Choose The Right Clients!

@larisadoll shared her best IG tips with Social Climbing attendees, including this great advice for choosing clients to capture content with! Consider this: Think about what transformation will be the most impactful for the viewer when you post the before and after together.

5. Salon Instagram: How To Motivate Your Staff

Salon owners, this one’s for you! Our biggest takeaway from salon owners @anhcotran@hiltonsophia and @iamginabianca? The best way to build your salon’s Instagram page is to motivate your staff by giving them the tools they need to succeed—a content-friendly space, encouragement and education!

6. Creating Videos For Instagram

Can we just say, the video segment was truly packed with amazing info?! But way before you learn how to make videos that go viral, it’s important to always ask yourself these questions before you start shooting:

  • Who is this video for? Hairdressers, clients or viral entertainment.
  • What is the goal of this video? Teach a new technique, attract clients, etc.
  • What action do I want the audience to take? Book appointments, purchase retail, etc.

7. Showing Your Personality On Instagram

When you are building your personal brand on Instagram, remember this—anyone can find someone who does great hair, but your personality is what makes you stand out to clients. 👏 While your page should be hair-focused, showcase your personality in captions and IG stories to connect with your followers.

8. So You Want To Be An Influencer?

Short answer—watch Social Climbing for all of the tools and education you need, plus an ENTIRE SEGMENT on this topic with BTC’s @haleygable and @chrissylan. Until then, we’re sharing this tip—make sure you’re tagging the brands you use and love in all of your posts! It’s a great first step to get noticed by the brands you want to work with.

9. Change Your Mindset

The only way you will find success and build your business through social media is by taking risks, going outside of your comfort zone and having a “YES!” attitude. Don’t be discouraged if you are the only one in your salon trying to build your page, enter competitions and grow your personal brand. Stay focused! “Stop shrinking to fit the places you’ve outgrown,” shares BTC Founder Mary Rector (@marybehindthechair).

10. #ONESHOT Hair Awards

The best way to kickstart your social media, get noticed by press and other artists AND connect with a global community of stylists? Take your shot! This year’s #ONESHOT deadline is May 4—so take your artistry to the next level by participating in the world’s LARGEST hairdressing awards programs! The best part? It’s all on Instagram.
