Instagram-Inspired Haircolor + 2 Fashion Color Application Tips
Working to improve your color melts? Here’s the bottom line—it’s all about the starting canvas and the blending technique, and Matrix Global Artist Constance Robbins (@constancerobbins) is breaking it all down below! When we caught sight of her recent Instagram-inspired color melt, we asked Constance to share her formulas and steps PLUS her top tips for working with fashion tones and melted color. Keep scrolling for the inside scoop.
When picking the right fashion colors…
- Choose a color that will complement your client, not compete with them.
- To do this, Constance keeps her colors more grounded and muted at the base, then adds brighter, lighter pieces toward the ends.
When prelightening for fashion colors…
- Use natural underlying pigments in the formulations—the hair doesn’t always need to be lifted to a Level 10 because the underlying pigment can offer more support in the final color.
- For example, when working with red/oranges, Constance will only lift the hair to a Level 6, 7 or 8. The red/orange on that base will give the color more longevity and keep the hair healthier.
