Nudes, blushes and barely-there tones are surfacing in blondes all over our feed and Wella Professionals Hair Ambassador Briana Cisneros (@brianacisneros) just created a stunning example of this look using the NEW! Wella Professional ILLUMINA Color Cool Blonde Shades. Scroll through to hear all about these icy shades and how Briana created this stunning beige blonde.

1. What makes these new shades different than other shades from the ILLUMINA Color line?

Wella Professionals ILLUMINA Color is known for creating sheer color that looks luminous every light and these new shades are no exception. “There just were no shades existing in the ILLUMINA line prior to these that give quite the same effect. I would usually have to mix multiple shades together but these on their own are just so icy and beautiful. Honestly, I think my new all-time favorite shade is 9/59. It’s a lovely pink champagne blonde that has a blush nude tonality. It’s magical. They are a dream come true and I find myself reaching for them all the time!” says Briana.

2. Who is the ideal client for this technique?

A client with a lighter starting level is ideal for this candidate since it utilizes open-air balayage with a clay lightener. This technique is different from your traditional balayage because it has dimension running all the way through the hair so you definitely want to make sure your client wants to see multiple tones all throughout the hair.

3. What maintenance is required for this look?

This technique can grow out seamlessly and be super low-maintenance depending on how you formulate. When creating the base color, formulate to be close to your clients natural color so the grow out will be softer and they will be able to go longer in between visits.

At home, Briana recommends a healthy hair regimen to promote color longevity, including using a purple shampoo to keep the blonde tones bright as well as treatments to retain moisture. Depending on the client’s hair porosity, the lowlight will most likely be what fades the fastest, so reducing frequency of washing is also recommended.

4. What challenges come with this technique?

“I would say that the biggest challenge lies in the formulations,” explains Briana. Knowing the porosity of your client’s hair will help you know how dark to formulate. Remember, when a clients hair is super porous, it can grab a toner or formulation darker than desired.

Another challenge with highly dimensional looks is to make sure all elements blend together seamlessly. This can be achieved through application technique as well as placement. Keeping these tips in mind will leave you with soft transitions throughout and avoid any harsh lines.

5. What does pricing look like for this technique?

Briana charges hourly for color services but recommends charging for a base color and balayage. She relies on formulation and application for this technique so toning is minimal but if you needed to add a toner that could be another charge as well.
