Contessa 21 WINNERS
The beauty world came together on Sunday, November 1, 2009 to celebrate the colorful achievements of Canada’s top hairstyling talent and to discover the style setters of tomorrow at the 21st annual Contessas: The Canadian Hairstylist of the Year Awards.
More than 1,200 industry professionals from across the country gathered at the Sheraton Centre Hotel to applaud the very best in hair, makeup, nails, salon interior design, business and community service. 2009 also marked the first ever Master Colourist award, recognizing Canada’s most experienced and creative color technicians— very fitting for this year’s theme, Redefining Colour.
Hosted by hairstylist and TV personality Bill Rowley (Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, FASHION, Flare, Chatelaine, CityLine), the 21st annual Contessa Awards were as stylish and entertaining as ever before. Inspiring show segments, live performances by violinist Dr. Draw and martial arts masters Team 2Xtreme, and entertaining multimedia presentations captivated the audience throughout the evening. Industry personalities Kevin Murphy, Damien Carney and Anne Mincey also leant an international presence to the night. The competition proved fierce as 137 Canadian salon professionals competed to take home a Contessa. Five independent panels of industry experts judged the record number of entries to award winners in the 24 exclusive categories.
