5 Hair Trends Clients Will Request This Summer
Pro Tips You Need For Clients’ Summer Trend Requests
1. Natural Blondes
PSA: Clients finally want to see WARMTH. We know it can be tricky to formulate the perfect amount of blonde warmth without going brassy or yellow. That’s why evo Creative Team Member and salon owner Bel Mills (@bel_pipsqueekinsaigon) is sharing her best dos and don’ts for natural, golden blondes—in and out of the salon.

Who is an ideal client for this color?
“This color works best with people that are a Level 6 or lighter,” explains Bel. Consider lifestyle—in the consultation, educate your client on why maintaining warmth takes extra maintenance to look salon-fresh, so you can manage their expectations.
What does the process look like for natural-toned blondes?
“This was originally a full head of fine foils with tip outs,” Bel explains, adding that, “This technique does take time to begin with. Once that initial larger appointment is done, then touch-up appointments are much quicker.”
- Step 1: Do a root touch-up with Formula A, adding tip outs where brightness is needed.
- Step 2: Rinse; then, apply Formula B as a root tap and Formula C on Zones 2 and 3.
- Step 3: Wash and prep the hair with evo Day of Grace Pre-Style Primer.
- Step 4: Add evo Happy Campers Wearable Treatment to help with detangling and sectioning during cutting. When ready to style, apply evo Mister Fantastic Blowout Spray to add hold.
- Step 5: Finish with evo Love Touch Shine Spray for extra shine.
Pro Tip: “When it comes to foiling: Always use clean sections, keep foils neat [and] saturate evenly. When you tip out, make sure your sections are fine and well-saturated,” Bel says. “This color definitely can’t be achieved with a rushed slap-and-dash approach.”
What does maintenance look like for clients?
“With colors like this, I’d recommend coming in around the 8 to 12 week mark,” Bel says. “If you want to go lighter like this, it’s so important to look after your hair with a good home routine with quality products. Invest in good hot tools and brushes, too.”
“It’s so important to use high-quality shampoo and conditioner like evo Ritual Salvation. Add a good quality treatment into your routine like evo The Great Hydrator Moisture Mask. [And] everyone needs some evo Icon Welder Heat Protection Spray in their bathroom cupboard,” Bel says.

2. Long, Layered Haircuts
One of the most viral cuts on social media features long sweeping layers that are loved by all types of long-haired clients. The key to this look? The consultation. Keep reading to learn why…
“Believe it or not, my must-have tip for determining face-framing layers is gauging a person’s comfort level in styling and maintenance,” explains haircutting specialist and evo Creative Team Member Christian Awesome (@christianawesome).
“The thing I find to be a deal breaker for [clients] is that (in most cases) you lose the ability to easily pull your hair up and off of your face,” says Christian. “They really need to be styled, even if minimally, in order for them to translate the way they’re meant to. So, I like to ask a lot of questions to emphasize this before moving forward.”

Christian’s step-by-step long layers:
Pro Tip: Christian likes to start his haircuts in the front—here’s why: “It allows the person in my chair to get a sense of how a new haircut will frame their face within the first few minutes of a service.”
- Step 1: Start by shaping the fringe and face frame. Blend it into the length.
- Step 2: Continue to blend layers and define the silhouette of the haircut.
- Step 3: Cocktail evo Easy Tiger Smoothing Balm for control and evo Whip It Good Moisture Mousse for bounce.
- Step 4: Blow dry and style as desired. Finish with evo Water Killer Dry Shampoo to add texture.

How To Cut Long Layers On Curly Textures
A long, layered haircut is perfect for any texture. That’s why we asked salon owner Addis Browne (@addis_browne) for her tips to adjust cutting long layers on curly-haired clients.
According to Addis, “95 percent of curly cutting should be done on dry hair, so you can see the variety of curl patterns in different parts of the hair. There are always exceptions to curly hair so if you need to cut wet, it should be a micro amount.”
When it comes to styling, no matter the curl texture, there’s a few things Addis always keeps in mind:
- Curls need hydration so never skip a leave-in! Her favorite? evo Happy Campers Wearable Treatment.
- Keep wet styling simple by sectioning and using a brush for curl defining.
- Avoid touching the hair or moving your diffuser too much when drying.

3. Styling Defined Curls
Oftentimes hairdressers struggle to create long-lasting styles for curly clients because of the wrong techniques or products. “A good haircut on curly hair is nothing without the right products for that person,” says evo Creative Director Nicole Kae (@nicolekae_creative). Keep reading to get her process for styling defined curls:

- Start by cleansing with evo Springsclean Deep Clean Rinse.
- Apply evo Baby Got Bounce Curl Treatment to prepare curls for styling.
- Spray evo Happy Campers Wearable Treatment through damp, towel-dried hair.
- Next, apply evo Total Recoil Curl Defining Cream to the back of your hand. Starting at the front of the hairline, use a small amount of product and twist it into a section of hair from roots to ends. Continue to use this technique throughout the head.
- To finish, use your hands to apply evo Head Mistress Cuticle Sealer and refine the shape of the hair.
4. Retro-Inspired Shag
The shag was 2022’s most-requested haircut, and the trend is showing no signs of stopping. When we asked evo educator Shanice Cintron (@the.aquhairius) the key to creating her shag cuts, she said it’s cutting wet with a straight razor—plus, she swears by using a pre-style primer as a cutting lotion. Her favorite? evo Day of Grace.

Shancie’s No.1 Styling Tip:
“Use your hands to create bend where you want to see it,” she says. “I teach my clients to use their blow dryer and hands to give layers and curtains bangs the flip on the sides they want.”

5. Custom Vivids
The key here is custom. Each look is unique to each client—and so is the technique! That’s why we asked our industry besties for their pro tips for four different vivid looks.
“Pink surprisingly suits nearly everyone,” says Bel. “Pink can be soft, bright, cool and warm. You can find the perfect tone for almost everyone,” she says, which makes it a super-versatile color for a range of clients.

At-Home Vivids Care (GREAT for retail!)
Plus, Bel uses evo fab pro direct dye which is great for clients that are looking for a risk-free change. “These colors are temporary,” Bel says, adding that “evo has a rad system where your stylist can make you a customized take-home conditioner that perfectly matches your color. You can then top it off at home.” AKA: An easy way to sell more retail!
Pro Tip: To help with color fading, instruct clients to wash their hair with cold water. “I tell my clients that these colors generally fade in half each wash,” says Bel.
For clients that want to spice up their look with a more lowkey color, try a shiny copper like salon owner and evo North American Technical Specialist Marie Kieffer (@mvkieffer12). To keep color looking fresh in between appointments, Marie loves to send clients home with a fab pro customized color maintenance conditioner which she says is, “A must for any salon that wants to guarantee their work will never fade.”

This next look is for the bold and brave: MJ Déziel (@mjdeziel) created this eye-catching leopard print buzzcut for their client who wanted a, “Daring and attention-grabbing vibe,” they said.
This look is as bold as your technique as MJ recommends to, “Go against the norm and not tone the base.” Here’s why: “Keeping it on the undertone will help retain the beige/yellow tones, which is essential for achieving the warm, golden skin tone of a cheetah,” they explain.
