There’s no doubt that Emma Roberts is one of your client’s go-to blonde inspo pics, so we’re sharing her color formulas from celeb colorist and Nine Zero One Salon co-owner Nikki Lee (@nikkilee901). Keep scrollin’ to find out who the ideal client is for this technique, then snag the how-to steps, formulas and a base smudge trick to avoid over-foiling.

Color Inspiration:

“Emma always looks and feels her best blonde,” shared Nikki. “We decided to keep her a warm blonde and went for a ’90s supermodel vibe. With a new baby and a big birthday, we went out with a bang! Lisa Satorn (@lisasatornhair) added extensions for length and fullness. I kept her haircut free and flowing with piecey layers around the face.”

Ideal Client For This Technique:

Clients should be a natural Level 7 base or above, suggests Nikki. They should also expect to come in regularly for a quick mini highlight and root smudge to maintain that dreamy bright blonde.

FORMULA STEPS

1. Prep the hair with IN COMMON Crystal Serum to treat and moisturize the hair before blonding services. Apply from roots to ends and process for 5 minutes, then rinse.

2. Highlight with Formulas A and B and allow the foils to process for 15 minutes. Rinse and wash.

3. Base smudge with Formula C. Shifting the base to make it a shade or two lighter will help achieve and overall lighter look without overdoing it with lightener. Process for 3 minutes on wet hair, then rinse.

4. Tap the root with Formula D and tone with Formula E. Process for about 5 minutes.

5. Finish with an IN COMMON Crystal Cashmere cocktail treatment.

Pro Tip: For maintenance, Nikki sent Emma home with IN COMMON’s 3-Step Treatment System to keep her bright blonde color healthy.

6. Nikki accentuated Emma’s new color with face-framing layers. “They are the perfect way to open up the face and elevate your look from a basic layered cut to playful chic look,” says Nikki.

7. Finished Look
