How-To: Foil Finger Wave With A Balayage Board

Who doesn’t love a good finger wave?! We’ll wait… While traditional finger waves lay flat to the scalp, when we spotted this foil finger wave trick that gives those highly-sculpted sections more flexibility by Jamal Edmonds (@lamajbackwards), we HAD to share this genius idea! Here’s Why You Should Try It

Typically, finger waves that sit against the scalp lack mobility. If you do it this way, once the waves dry, you will have more flexibility. Here’s an idea: Only wave a section or two to create an accent on editorial looks.

Get The How-To Steps

1. Place the foil on top of a balayage board.

2. Take sections that are less than an inch for better saturation, like you would for balayage. 

3. Apply a mixture of MIZANI Perfect Coil Oil Gel and Moco De Gorilla Gel with a color brush.

4. Smooth out the section with a comb, then create the finger wave directly on the board (see Jamal’s technique in the IGTV video below!).

5. Allow the wave to dry on the foil.

Pro Tip: Use scissors to clean up the excess gel.
