Fall is officially here and with it comes the season’s hottest haircut trends to embrace. This season, we’re claiming your clients’ most-requested cuts will include wispy face-framing layers, textured bobs and lobs, beveled “Old Money” bobs and XL long layers. Get ahead of the game and perfect styling each of these cuts with the below tips.

1. Wispy, Face-Framing Layers: How to Get Long-Lasting Hold

The key to leveling up any face-framing cut is knowing how to style the layers to accentuate your client’s features and make sure they don’t fall flat. To do so, salon owner, educator and BTC Team Member Stevie Meech (@hairbystevie) offers these three tips:

  • Use a lightweight hairspray like Maria Nila’s Styling Spray and spray the layers as they lay over the face
  • Then, spray the Styling Spray underneath the hair to make sure the section is fully saturated for a lightweight yet long-lasting hold

“This will help create a wispy feeling and give some volume around the face,” Stevie shares.

2. Textured Bobs & Lobs: How to Achieve Lived-In Waves

The key to achieving lived-in waves on a jaw-skimming layered bob? Adding even more texture with the right waving pattern and styling products.

BTC Team Member Ashley Smith (@paintedbyashleymarie) shares her tips for achieving the below textured bob:

  • When curling the hair, curl in two-inch sections and alternate the direction you’re curling in every section.
  • Start curling each section about three inches away from the scalp.
  • Leave two to three inches of the ends of the hair out of the curling iron.
  • Once all hair is cooled, rub Styling Cream through your palms and rake through the mid-shaft to ends of the hair.
  • Finish by spraying Finishing Spray all over the look for touchable, long-lasting hold.

3. Beveled “Old Money” Bobs: Here’s How to Add Volume

It’s no secret that 2024 is the year of the bob and the “Old Money” bob trend is the latest one to enter the chat. The round beveled ends paired with minimal layering suit most face shapes and offer a polished, elegant look. To add long-lasting volume and maintain the cut’s rounded silhouette, follow the below styling hacks for straight, wavy and curly hair types.

For straight to wavy hair types:

  • Prep the hair by cleansing and conditioning with Pure Volume Shampoo and Conditioner.
  • Apply Pure Volume Mousse to damp hair from roots to ends.
  • Have your client flip their head over and blowdry at the roots to add volume.
  • Use your go-to round brush to blowdry and perfect the look’s rounded ends, making sure to style the hair toward the face.
  • Once the hair is cool and completely dry, spray Pure Volume Spray all over to lock in the added volume.

For curl patterns 2A to 4C:

  • On freshly cleansed hair, apply Curlicue from roots to ends for a polished, defined curl pattern.
  • Wrap small sections of hair around your finger and scrunch to create uniform curl patterns around the entire head.
  • Use your go-to shallow diffuser attachment to dry the hair in sections. Slowly and gently cup each section toward the head until all sections are dry.
  • Once hair is dry, apply Pure Volume Spray to lock the rounded shape in place.

4. XL Long Layers: Blowout Tips For Adding Volume & Definition

When styling your long-haired, long-layered clients, you want to ensure the arm workout you got in during the blowout doesn’t go to waste. To add volume to straight blowouts or add definition to wavy blowouts, check out these tips courtesy of Ashley.

For straight blowouts:

  • Apply the Volumizing Mousse to damp hair and concentrate on the roots for extra volume.
  • At the face-frame, use a round brush to style the section away from the face.
  • Then, wrap the section around a roller directing the hair to the back of the head.
  • Once the section is cool, set with Finishing Spray and remove the roller.
  • Use a large round brush to straighten and smooth the rest of the hair and finish with the Finishing Spray.

“I love the shine and hold the Finishing Spray gives,” says Ashley. “[It never] gets crunchy [and] you can build up the amount of hold you need. This will create the perfect bounce and swoop.”

For wavy blowouts:

  • On damp hair, apply Styling Mousse to create the perfect canvas that offers volume, hold and shine.
  • Once hair is dry and styled using your favorite curling iron, apply Styling Cream to the finished look for lightweight hold and definition.

“Lately I’ve been grabbing the Styling Cream instead of a texture spray,” shares Ashley. “While both do a great job of adding texture to the hair and breaking up the curls, I love the shine and hold the Styling Cream gives the hair. It’s a more lightweight version of a wax so it won’t weigh the hair down either.”
