3 Tips For Cutting Insta-Worthy Bobs & Lobs
It’s safe to say 2018 is (unofficially) the year of the bob/lob, which is why we had to make sure this on-trend cut was included in our 4 hour cutting-only event, BTC One Night Stand. But if it feels like your lobs aren’t quite looking the same as the ones you see on Insta racking in all the likes, Matt Swinney (@matt.swinney) is here to help. Below, check out three tips he shared on stage that’ll help your bobs and lobs hit Insta-worthy status!
1. Create Density First, Then Texturize
When dry-cutting a lob, Matt says to create density at the bottom of the shape first and then go through and texturize. Establishing the heaviest line at the start is critical and is much easier to do when the hair is dry because you can visually see the natural density of the hair.
2. The Key To Blunt Cuts
The key to creating a blunt, one-length lob that is also super appealing is to use zero elevation, zero tension and zero overdirection when cutting that first section.
3. The Left Hand Is In Control (If You’re A Righty)
If you’re right-handed, it’s important to remember that the left hand is the one controlling the perimeter of the haircut. Placing the hair in your fingers on the left hand when cutting the baseline of the shape will create a slight graduation, which isn’t wrong but it’ll alter the look of your bob/lob. “Missing this small but crucial step can lead to problems in the end where we end up over-texturizing and ruining the cut we originally desired,” said Matt.
