Evan’s 3 Tips For Cutting Curly Fringe

1. Always, always, always cut curly fringe with the hair dry and in its natural state. Why? If it’s wet or straightened first, you risk cutting the bangs too short because curly and wavy hair types naturally shrink when they dry.

2. When sectioning, pay attention to where the head starts to slope down to the forehead and then create a triangular section with the top of the triangle landing on this point. “By using this high point, you will not get any long pieces falling over,” shares Evan. The other two points should then land right on the corner of the eyes.

3. Have a client with little to no face-frame? Evan says to leave the fringe about an inch or two longer, then go ahead and wash and style the hair. Once the weight is removed, the curls will spring up a bit and it’ll be easier to go in and detail each curl to the desired length. (Psssst! Evan’s go-to tool for cutting and detailing fringe is the 6″ PHANTOM scissor from ARC™ Scissors! Why? “They fit nicely in my hand,” Evan explains. “When you’re cutting curly hair, you hold your hands in all different directions. So the scissors need to be comfortable.”)
