2019 Nail Trends: Pearls, Animal Print, Texture, Shine, Rhinestones

While everyone is Marie Kondo-ing their lives, we are LOVING the “more is more” nail trends we spotted on the New York Fashion Week FW19 runways. From graphic black-and-white to diamond chains, these nail looks proved there is a version of “maximalism” for everyone—and doesn’t that REALLY spark joy?

’80s Maximalism at The Blonds

The ultimate in over-the-top…just the way we like them! Created by the CND Team, the nails at The Blonds captured the predatory vibe of ’80s materialism—think Basic Instinct, Scarface, sharp glitz and high glamour. Animal print, crocodile texture, talons, rhinestones…this was anything BUT subtle while looking totally luxurious.

A look at every nail for The Blonds.

Extra, Extra Nails at Jeremy Scott

Newspaper headlines were the inspo behind these Miss Pop-created nails for essie, with a Pop Art twist. She alternated blanc and licorice for the lettering and punctuated each mani with a graphic dot.

Pearl Studs at ADEAM

Playing off a clothing collection that paid homage to the Japanese Ainu tribe, a culture dedicated to living in harmony with nature, these pearl nails by Mei Kawajiri (@nailsbymei) in two hues were soft with an elegant edge. The deep blue is OPI Chopstix and Stones and the petal pink is OPI Judo’nt Say, both from the brand’s new Tokyo Collection.

Patent Leather Glitz at Christian Siriano

Inspired by a rhinestone-embellished black pump, Rita Remark (@ritaremark) for essie created a mani that was half inky black patent leather, half sprinkled with small crystals. She topped essie licorice polish with speed.setter top coat for shine, and painted half of the nail with gel.setter, a plush top coat, before sprinkling on loose crystals.

Heat Map at Chromat

This season, Chromat brought attention to the urgent climate change issue and used sustainable and upcycled fabrics. The @ladyfancynails squad reflected this environmental message in the nail look, creating “heat map” nails using CND.

Matte Neon at Christian Cowan

The traffic-stopping nail spotting at Christian Cowan was a refreshing take on street style. @nailsbymei used Deco Miami polish and created matte neon nails (with some silver metallic accents) accented with a © logo.
