HOW-TO STEPS

  1 The client’s long hair is weighing her down, and she could use a cut that enhances and celebrates her natural, curly texture.

  2 An overhead view of the sectioning for the cut.

  3 Establish diagonal back sections from the profile to the top of the ear on each side. Then,  beginning at the center front, comb the hair “T” to the part. Elevate 45 degrees from the face and with minimal tension point cut a visual guide.

  4 Maintain a steep diagonal-back angle to connect to the desired length at the center back.  Repeat on the opposite side.
• 

  
  5 Continue working with curved diagonal back sections through into the nape behind the ear, increasing the length to connect to the length at center back.

  6 Continue working this technique up to the round of the head; raise the elevation with each section to create graduation.
• 

  
  7 Take a profile section; over-direct the hair to 90 degrees at the crown and establish a layering guideline, connecting the lengths from underneath.
• 

  
  8 Overdirect the remaining hair to the central guideline, creating an inversion. Repeat the technique on the opposite side.
• 

  
  9 In the back, comb the hair to natural fall and point cut to blend the length, keeping the perimeter rounded.
• 

  
  10 Reduce the weight by visually carving into the curls in a random pattern.
• 

  
  11 Apply One Curl at a Time and dry the hair with a low speed diffuser. Mist with S-factor Shiny Happy People.
