“Father, son, and house of Gucci.”

What’s even more iconic than this line delivered by the one and only Lady Gaga? The ‘80s spiral perm she dons while saying it. Created by her longtime hairstylist Frederic Aspiras (@fredericaspiras), the teased look was one of 55 Frederic created to transform Lady Gaga into Patrizia Reggiani in the new film “House of Gucci“.

The Joico Celebrity Hairstylist used fundamental hairdressing techniques to transform the character from the 1970s to the 1990s. “I wanted to be as authentic as possible,” he explained in an exclusive interview with BTC. “So I used the exact techniques that a hairdresser in the time periods would use. We did ’70s wet set rolls, ’80s spiral perms, ’90s power blowouts and A LOT of backcombing.”

Fun fact: Frederic created the spiral perm BY HAND! Don’t believe us? Frederic shared the step-by-step behind this look and what products he used to make sure it was motion picture ready.

HOW-TO STEPS

1

Gently towel-dry hair without disturbing the natural curl pattern. Spray Joico K-Pak Color Therapy Luster Lock Multi-Perfector Spray evenly throughout hair.

2

Work a few drops of Joico ColorFul Glow Beyond Anti-Fade Serum into hands. Then, twist each individual curl strand around your finger. Repeat throughout the entire head, reapplying product as needed.

3

Dispense Joico JoiWhip Design Foam into hand and evenly distribute onto damp, twisted hair.
