Going to the Emmys With Jon Hamm

close formula

There was no Don Draper-style gloom around the place when Celebrity Men’s Groomer Diana Schmidtke showed up at Mad Men star Jon Hamm’s house to ready the nominee for the 2014 Emmy red carpet. Instead, Diana reports, the vibe was laid back and fun as Hamm and his longtime partner Jennifer Westfeldt prepared for the big evening. Another marked difference from the dapper Draper? “Jon is on hiatus,” reveals Diana, “so he’s sporting longer hair and a full beard!”

To groom the guy that Diana refers to as “Jon Hamm-some,” for the red carpet, Diana created an old-world, glamorous look. “I really feel that actors and actresses should look as glamorous as possible at events like this,” she explained. “And for guys, since they don’t wear makeup, it all has to come across in the hair, skin and body.”

HOW-TO STEPS

1

To create Hamm’s screen-idol hairstyle, Diana first dampened the actor’s hair with American Crew’s Alternator Flexible Styling and Finishing Spray. “This is my foundation,” she explains.  “I apply it to dry hair and it can be reactivated throughout the night. If he needs to refresh his style for the parties after the show, all he has to do is wet his hands and run them through his hair.” For a high shine finish, she applied American Crew’s Firm Hold Styling Gel over the Alternator while Hamm’s hair was still damp. She created a side part and used her hands to lift the hair slightly at the roots as she dried it. Then she used a comb to direct the hair to the side and back. “He has the best hair ever,” Diana comments. “Fairly fine and lots and lots of it!”  Diana also trimmed Hamm’s beard so that the neckline was crisp and clean above the collar of his Tom Ford tux, and she nipped strays within the beard with small scissors.

Then it was time for some fun. “I always work with the guys,” Diana explains,“so it was a blast to be around Jennifer and her clothes and jewels and shoes! Her shoes were amazing! Jennifer is very warm and girly and it was fun to be girly along with her!”
