Two words to sum up 2024? Chappell Roan. The superstar and pop diva captured hearts, playlists and fans across the world in a short time and we have the step-by-step for her VMAs red carpet debut.

Chappell’s hairstylist Dom Forletta (@domforletta) is the brain (and hands) behind her recent Rolling Stone cover, Coachella debut looks, billboards and countless stage appearances. Now, Dom created a medieval-inspired braided updo for Chappell’s first walk on the VMAs red carpet using Bumble and bumble. products and Olivia Garden styling tools.

“For Chappell’s red carpet look, we wanted to create a very natural, kind of medieval soft wave— almost like it could be her natural texture, with intricate braids in the front and back of her hair,” says Dom.

HOW-TO STEPS

1

To prep the hair, Dom uses Bumble and bumble. Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer before blow-drying using Olivia Garden Super HP Dryer with the Ceramic + Ion Speed XL Extra-Long Barrel Hair Brush

2

To add texture and curl, Dom used Olivia Garden Titanium + Ion Curling Iron and Detangler Brush along with Invisible Oil to create natural shine and movement.

3

For the braids, Dom split Chappell’s hair into front and back sections. In the front section, he secured the braids with Invisible Oil and Long Last Styling Cream to soften and secure each braid.

4

For the back section, Dom created a custom netted braid piece that was secured to the hair.
