The Canadian Mirror Awards were handed out live to a sold-out crowd in Toronto, where some of the best hairdressers in the biz received awards in 21 categories. In addition to all the awards, Canadian singing sensation Amanda Morra gave a high-energy performance of her hit songs, and the entire event was hosted by MTV LIVE’s Nicole Holness. The crowd also got to enjoy a dance and fashion show with a focus on recreating musical icons. But the real reason for the night was to hand out 21 awards to the deserving winners, including the big winner of the night Darek Wierzbicki, who was named Canadian Hairdresser of the Year! More about some of the awards:
For the “Big Fix” Award, the industry was encouraged to vote online for the most deserving salon to receive a facelift by Fiore&Greco Design with Matrix Canada. A new award this year was the Hairdresser’s Choice Award. Stylists created a look that was then posted online and voted on by their peers. The Mirrors also handed out an Award for Environmental Stewardship to Brian Phillips of worldSALON.

Finally, Canadian Hairdresser along with L’Oreal Professionnel launched the “Dining for Difference” in support of AIDS charities. Canadian Hairdresser encouraged the beauty community to host dinner parties in August inviting friends, family or even clients to enjoy a meal and each other’s company, in exchange for a cash donation.
