Gray Coverage Application
Joico LUMI10™ can cover grays in 10 minutes, so there’s plenty of time to throw in a few foils and leave the root color for last. Here’s how Ricardo approaches it:
- First, open the foils to see if the color has started to process. There needs to be 20 to 25 minutes of processing time left on the hair before applying the root color.
- Next, apply LUMI10™ between the foils and throughout the roots where gray coverage is needed.
Pro Tip: Ricardo gives himself time to apply the root color by using two different shades, a level apart. The lightest shade is applied first, followed by the darker shade as he moves farther into the hair. This allows the lighter shade to process longer if you’re slower in your application.

Shadow Root Or Base Retouch
LUMI10™ isn’t just for gray coverage. Larisa applied it as a shadow root with Joico Blonde Life Quick Tone Liqui-Crème Toner, which tones in 5 minutes, to speed up a blonding service. Here’s how she did it:
- After applying a few foils around the hairline and crown, place LUMI10™ the roots and in between foils working in a teardrop formation from the crown to the hairline.
- Once the root shadow is finished, apply Blonde Life Quick Tone Liqui-Crème Toner to the mid-lengths and ends. Let process and rinse.
Note: If using Joico LumiShine™ Demi-Permanent Liquid Color to tone instead of the Blonde Life Quick Tone Liqui-Crème Toner, Larisa recommends letting everything process first, rinse and then apply LumiShine so it can sit for the recommended length of time.

Make More Money
Just because you’re saving your client time, doesn’t mean you have to charge less. It’s actually just the opposite! The client is willing to pay for the convenience of not having to sit longer for a traditional gray coverage or shadow root application, so don’t be afraid to add an extra $10 to $15 to your ticket.
