Get ready to screenshot and save this dramatic ponytail how-to from the stylist who glams your favorite cool-girl celebs, Justine Marjan (@justinemarjan)! Minimal in the front but bringin’ some serious DRAMA in the back—this Golden Globes ponytail on Kristin Cavallari is the ultimate bombshell look. That’s why we’re sharing all the styling deets and Justine’s inspiration for the red carpet look below!
Inspiration: “Kristin’s low back on the AMEN dress really inspired the look,” shares Justine. “Because she was wearing a high neckline and backless dress, we thought something that was off the face and cascading down the back would be beautiful. We did a super long brushed out wavy ponytail that hit just at the back of her head. From the front it was subdued and all about the dress and the back was all about the drama of the hair!”
HOW-TO STEPS
1
Prep damp hair with a thermal protectant then blow-dry using the ghd Air® Hairdryer and a smoothing brush, directing the hair away from the face.
2
Apply a strong mousse to the roots, then brush the bottom half of hair into a ponytail with a Kitsch No-Snag Elastic. Repeat on the top section, adding to the first ponytail with another elastic.
3
Prep extensions—Justine used a Hidden Crown Headband Style Extension—by curling horizontal sections with the ghd® Curve Curling Iron, then pin to set and spray with hairspray.
4
Allow the hair to cool, then remove pins and brush through with a smoothing brush.
5
Cut the string off the headband style extension, then apply wig tape to the base and tape around the base of the ponytail.
6
Brush through the length of the ponytail and lock in the finished look with hairspray.
